In simple terms a leader is an individual who takes the leadership in motivating, improving and guiding his/her followers into the correct path. A leader and a manager isn't always the same. Leadership is not dependent on the persons hierarchical position in a company but a leader is identified as a person who has followers. 

There are some essential skills that person must master to be a successful leader both in his/her professional and personal lives, given below is a brief description of these main skill sets. They are:
  • Intellectual Skills
  • People Skills 

Intellectual skills are basically skills that a leader must master in order to properly lay out plans and to develop a proper vision which his/her followers can be directed to.

An individual with a strong set of intellectual skills must be able to analyse a problem by looking at it in different perspectives and coming into a strategic well thought out decision.

People with good people skills has a great deal of communication techniques and skills up their sleeves. People skills are basically skills that a person should master that he/she can use to influence other people into doing the right thing. 

These personnel are skilled in interacting with peers, employees, management, etc. 

There are some critical aspects inside people skills that an individual need to master in order to succeed, they are as follows:

  • Flexibility
  • Trust Worthy
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Patience
  • Empathy
  • Honesty
  • Good sense of humor
  • etc

Conclusion 

The world has seen so many great individuals who may not be people who holds a big position in a reputed organization but these great individuals has some unique set of skills that enabled them to influence other people into doing a certain thing. These individuals had some things in common, they are proper leadership skills. So if a company wants to succeed or to have competitive advantage over other companies they should properly guide their employees into begin leaders.
